Fitness = Life Lessons

Some of the biggest lessons I have learned in my life are from fitness.  People might laugh or say that is insane, but just read along and see what I mean….

When you think you have nothing left and your tank is totally empty – it is not. You always have more left in your tank, when you are finishing that mile and you think you are completely depleted, you can go another mile.  10 reps?  Do 11. 

But why is this important for life?

In life, there will be so many challenges, you will have long days, tasks and things you don’t want to do, you will be tired and feel like you just ‘can’t do this anymore’.  But you can.  You just have to dig a bit deeper.  There is always more there and the strength to push through and get to the other side. 

Take the words; can’t, won’t, wish, maybe, never, and other self-doubting and self-limiting words out of your vocabulary because YOU CAN!  Fitness can show you that you can do anything you set your mind too.  If you want to do something, you can set up an action plan and day by day improve and be able to measure your improvement.   

But why is this important for life?

You are tougher, stronger, and more resilient than you think you are.  Take the self-limiting and self-doubting words out of your vocabulary for life too.  YOU CAN!  You can do whatever it is you want.  It takes hard work, consistency, discipline, and challenging yourself to be uncomfortable.  You can re-invent yourself to be whatever you REALLY want! 

Consistency is the most important part of fitness.  Staying consistent with your training, staying consistent with your goals, recovery, mindset, routine.  Consistency is where fitness is won. 

But why is this important for life?

What you do consistently in life are your daily habits.  These habits build your life, goals, relationships, work ethic, job, etc.  Consistency is where life is won as well. 

Discipline.  In fitness, none of the above matters if you don’t have discipline.  Not every day do you want to wake up and workout and not every day do you want to wake up and be competitive with yourself to push yourself to be better.  But you have to have discipline in order to achieve what you want.  Discipline is what gets you the furthest!

But why is this important for life?

Any goal in life requires discipline.  Being disciplined about work deadlines, diets, getting up on time, cleaning up behind you.  Anything worthwhile in life requires discipline.  It is easy to be motivated in the beginning, but when the going gets tough – discipline has to kick in. 

Overall – Just find a way!  Finding a way in fitness and in life is what is most important.  We can either find a way or find an excuse.  I can’t workout today because it is snowing, well actually you can.  You can shovel snow and do a bodyweight indoor workout.  I can’t workout because there is no gym, no put on your shoes and walk or run.  In life, I am not where I want to be because of someone or something.  No, you are not there because of YOU.  You are the only one standing in your own way because you are finding an excuse for everything.  Stop finding an excuse and start finding a way.
